El Breaking Barriers Congress is an educational congress that aims to provide access to the latest assistive and augmentative communication technologies to as many people as possible.
To this end, we have formed a panel of experts who advised the organization to develop the congress program with the utmost detail. It is a multidisciplinary team made up of people related to the academic world, direct care professionals, and users’ families. Thanks to their contributions and advice, a very attractive program has been established for everyone.
Bibiana Escribano
Assistive technology consultant for BJ Adaptaciones. Occupational therapist and trained in psychomotricity, music therapy, and other associated techniques (Snoezelen, Basal Stimulation, Bobath, Perfetti, Sensory Integration…). Master in neurorehabilitation. With experience in direct care for the elderly, people with dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases, adults with multiple disabilities, young people with intellectual disabilities, and people with acquired brain damage.
Marc Coronas
Degree in Psychology from the University of Barcelona. Associate Professor of the Department of Cognition, Development and Educational Psychology, University of Barcelona. He is part of the team of the Unit of Augmentative Communication Techniques (UTAC) of the University of Barcelona.
Specialist in augmentative communication and assistive technologies.
Garbiñe Guerra Begoña
Graduated in Occupational Therapy, with specialization in psychomotor skills, neurodevelopment, and sensory integration. Since 2001 she has been working in the training and educational innovation centers of Berritzegune in Bizkaia. Among her functions are the assessment, counseling, and intervention with assistive technology for students with special educational needs.
Clara I. Delgado Santos
Speech therapist of the Area of Information and Advice on Supportive Products and Design for All of Ceapat, Imserso. Diploma in Speech Therapy from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, with Extraordinary Diploma Award. Graduate in Social Work and Master in Human Rights with specialization in Disability, by the UNED.
For 8 years she worked as a speech therapist in a day center for people with disabilities until her incorporation at Ceapat. She is currently starting her doctoral thesis on the exercise of rights of people with disabilities who use alternative augmentative communication with assistive technology, within the Doctoral Program in Law and Social Sciences of the UNED.
Camacho Cantón Family
The Camacho Cantón family, from Albal (Valencia), consists of Miguel, Gádor and Miguel. Together they have demonstrated how, thanks to assistive technology, Miguel, of 15 years of age and with the absence of verbal language as a result of a congenital neuromuscular disease, has been able to grow as one more family member. Their experience and daily challenges in the use of assistive technology make the Camacho Cantón family a key testimony in this experts committee.
Raquel Soriano Rico
Teacher of therapeutic pedagogy. Specialist and responsible for the stimulation
in the CCEE “Virgen de la Esperanza” of AMPY (association for people with intellectual disabilities in Yecla, Murcia). Coordinator of the Resource Center of the entity for 13 years. Trainer of Basale Stimulation® in pedagogy and therapy. Co-director of Meraki (space for accompaniment, learning, and development) and consultant and specialist in augmentative and alternative communication with assistive technology.
María Luisa Gómez Taibo
Degree in Psychology from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1989. Ph.D. from the University of A Coruña in 2003; her thesis dealt with the lexical access to reading for people with cerebral palsy using augmentative and alternative communication. Since 1997 she has been a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Psychology at the University of A Coruña. She is the author of numerous articles, including her recent book “Comunicación Simbólica. Comunicación Aumentativa y Alternativa” published in 2020.
Ana Medina Reguera
Ana is an associate professor in the Philology and Translation Department at the Pablo de Olavide University of Seville (Spain). Her main research area is that of Accessibility and Website Localization. She is the Head Researcher of the Andalusian Government research group COMINTRAD, and of the national projects ‘Capaces de Comunicar’ (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology) and ‘Pictograms and Visual Elements to Understand Heritage: Intersemiotic Translation into Easy-to-Read’ (founded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation). She is also highly involved in the field of Aided Augmentative and Alternative Communication for people with complex communication needs.
